I have been in Victoria for less than four years, but in that short time I have seen incredible accomplishments, and have witnessed two crises at TLC. Friends tell me there is an ongoing feeling that TLC is always on the brink of disaster. I would like to help change that perception. I believe TLC has accomplished an incredible amount of good in its 10 short years of existence. It has also grown to be a very large entity consisting of public donations and trusts. At its current size and scope, its management must be careful to protect and preserve the existing organization and properties while it looks toward possible future acquisitions.
I believe I can help TLC to do just that. My business experiences include building my own company from inception to a significant size. I endured all the hard times that came at me along the way and faced numerous fiscal challenges. I have been down a road very similar to the one TLC is traveling now. I have “walked the walk”, so to speak. I would like to bring the benefits from those oftentimes hard-learned lessons to The Land Conservancy.
Earlier this year, I was approached by TLC to become the mortgage holder for Abkhazi Gardens. At that time, I carefully studied the financials of the organization. Along with some very positive observations, I also found areas for concern. I made no secret of my concerns. I shared my observations with the Board of Directors, and didn’t pull any punches. I found the organization willing to listen. They appointed me to an open seat on the Board, and shortly thereafter, named me as a member of the Finance Committee. I funded the Abkhazi Gardens mortgage. I believed then in the importance of TLC continuing to exist, and I still do.
Since serving as a member of the Board of Directors, I see many things that I like and some that I don’t. I am working hard to effect change in areas of my concern. I believe that change is possible, but it will take time and some patience. I would like to continue serving on the Board of Directors to assist the organization in achieving a solid financial footing and, at the same time, its mission to protect the land of this beautiful province. If you agree, please consider casting a vote for me to continue on the Board of Directors.
